Proposal for Responsible Fisheries to the Balearic Islands

On November 29, Xavier Pastor, Executive Director of Oceana Europe and marine scientist Marta Carreras, presented Oceana’s proposal for responsible fisheries in the Balearic Islands at a press conference in Palma de Mallorca. Earlier this month, on November 1st, a debate called “Responsible Fisheries and Marine Protected Areas in the Balearic Islands,” took place with the participation of fishing industry representatives, public authorities and scientists.

Oceana’s proposal takes an in-depth look into five categories of problems caused by different types of fishing methods practiced in the Balearic islands and the importance of marine protected areas.
